I actually looked up the history of the term “maxi dress” because I’m nerdy like that. I was also kind of confused because women have historically always worn long dresses, so why are they randomly called maxi’s now. Well, It all started with skirts. Maxi skirts were seen in Oscar de la Renta’s 1970’s collections as an alternative to the mini skirt. From there dresses that were featured in Doctor Zhivago were called “maxi dresses” and became really popular. These five looks are different styles of maxis.
