Trend Watch: Purple

Trend Watch: Purple

Pantone came out with its color of the year at the start of January and declared it was the year of ULTRAVIOLET and since January other purple colors have been trending like pastels and lavenders. Ultraviolet is such a beautiful statement color, but in general, purple can be daunting, it’s bright, it’s loud, it doesn’t go with everything.

To match colors it’s best to refer back to elementary school. Purple will work well with its color family-red hues that are closer to purple on the color wheel than orange, and blues that are closer to the color wheel than green. Purple also works well with yellow because it’s across from it on the color wheel. The thing about mixing and matching many colors is that if taken in their brightest form sometimes it can be too overwhelming. So below are six purple looks in all different shades to guide you through this ultraviolet year.

I have this distinct memory of Middle School. I got up for school, curled my hair, put on a purple striped shirt and purple skinny jeans. Everything I wore then had to be the same color. Alas, these moccasins are actually for girls and they don’t have a women’s size so I took the link out.
